I understand your feelings. Though your language was a little strong, your observation is good....Most of the men in kerala have no respect for women. They should learn to respect their own mothers and sisters. Just going through the opinions will make it clear....

ഒരു തിരുത്ത്
ഇത്തരം ഒരു ലേഖനം ഇടാന് തോന്നിയ ചേതോ വികാരത്തിന്റെ പിന്നില് എന്താണ്? ഇവിടെ ചേച്ചി പരാമര്ശിച്ച എല്ലാ കാര്യങ്ങളിലും സ്ത്രീയുടെ പങ്കും ഒട്ടും മോശമല്ല.. ഇതെല്ലാം സമൂഹത്തില് കാണുന്ന ചില പൊതുവായ സംഭവങ്ങള് ആണ്... ഇതെല്ലാം വിമര്ശിക്കപെടേണ്ടതും ആണ്. ഇതിന്റെ പേരില് പുരുഷ വര്ഗത്തെ മാത്രം അടച്ചക്ഷേപിച്ചതിന്റെ പ്രതിഫലനം ആണ് മുകളില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്ന പരാമര്ശങ്ങള്..
ഈ ലേഖനം എഴുതുമ്പോള് എന്ത് കൊണ്ടു നമ്മുടെ പട്ടാളക്കാരുടെ കാര്യം ചേച്ചി മറന്നു പോയി... നമുക്കെ വേണ്ടി ജീവന് പോലും കൊടുക്കാന് തയാറായി അതിര്ത്തിയില് ത്യാഗം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു .. കുടുംബം പുലര്ത്താനായി മരുഭൂമിയിലും മറ്റു വിദേശ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും ഒക്കെ പോയി കഷ്ടപെടുന്ന പ്രവാസികളുടെ കാര്യമോ...? ഇവരില് ചിലരുടെ ഭാര്യമാര് സുഖം തേടി പരപുരുഷന്മാരുടെ കൂടെ പോകുമ്പോള്, എല്ലാ സ്ത്രീകളും അങ്ങനെ ആണ് എന്ന് വിലയിരുത്താന് പറ്റുമോ?
സ്വന്തം ശരീരം വിറ്റു കാശാക്കുന്നതും സ്ത്രീകള് മാത്രമാണ്.. അതിന് അവര്ക്ക് സംഘടനകള് വരെ ഉണ്ട്...... പിന്നെ മറ്റു ഒരുപാടു കാര്യങ്ങള് മുകളില് പലരും പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്....
ചേച്ചിയുടെ ഈ കാഴ്ചപ്പാട് മാറ്റുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു........

destinies, tears and longings
inevitable is the fate of cultures comparatively smaller/weaker than the mainstream ones to fade away in this age of multinational,multicultural coexistence(read competition). in the case of onam, i feel the nostalgic elements being washed away from under our feets. at a time when you don't have to wait for a (particular) day in a year to take in the scent of the newly-stitched shirt and the unopened sari, what can we possibly expect?
now comes the sarcastic bit
maybe i'm wrong, but in a market driven economy, business establishments promoting a festival is a good thing, given the fact that we are a generation of spenders with eyes on mall windows(and a heart in the lost things of the past)!!
