I have read your atricle.Being a regular viewer of Idea star singer I am shocked to read its contents.I am regular viwer of "American Idol" which probabaly can claim the original music talent contest
There is basically two differences,I think.There is no "Thattippu " in American Idol.The program is live(Well if you ignore one minute lag).Secondly you use 1-800 number for to vote which costs the viewer nothing in U S A.Offcourse you can SMS too.But the cost to you is the same as the cost you incurr to SMS someone else
This article answers my question why Malayalm channels are not resorting toll free numbers for voting
