IST is only for schools and colleges and for the rest there is an Indian Stretchable Time. This belief of the vast majority of Indians is comparatively a smaller impediment in India�s march towards prosperity. More serious maladies run deeper, including corrupt politicians, corrupt and generalist bureaucracy which is unable to deliver in a knowledge driven decision making process and a civil society which takes everything with a �chaltha hai� attitude.
During a recent fire accident in one of our cities, the Fire personnel headed by a IPS officer (a woman, against whom there were serious corruption charges in the past ) asked people trapped in the high rise building to jump into bed sheets and small nets being held by the public on the ground. Needless to say those who jumped in panic missed the target and died.
We learn and practise professionalism and time management when we are outside India. Sorry, inside the country we are like this only!
