destinies, tears and longings

destinies, tears and longings

inevitable is the fate of cultures comparatively smaller/weaker than the mainstream ones to fade away in this age of multinational, multicultural coexistence(read competition). in the case of onam, i feel the nostalgic elements being washed away from under our feets. at a time when you don't have to wait for a (particular) day in a year to take in the scent of the newly-stitched shirt and the unopened sari, what can we possibly expect?

now comes the sarcastic bit
maybe i'm wrong, but in a market driven economy, business establishments promoting a festival is a good thing, given the fact that we are a generation of spenders with eyes on mall windows(and a heart in the lost things of the past)!!
