Interesting to note that the offerings to Muthappan are locally available food of his worshippers, including some items which are unacceptable in the eyes of purists.
In my humble opinion, there's nothing more sacred than a God who is one among his worshippers. These food-offerings are, to me, more precious than all the 'synthetic' brahminical offerings that are far-removed from local reality.
We must take care to protect and nurture this cultural diversity. Thanks for the article!
