The story suffers due to the insufficient definition of the two main characters and their relation. No two readers will have the same opinion on a story, if it is told in such a fashion and each reader will be right in interpreting the story on the basis of his/her reading experience. As a reader, the impression I get is that the story probably deals with a platonic relation. It is acknowledged that in a platonic relation there will be a constant struggle between one�s emotions and conscience and the relation will survive only if the conscience wins, all the time. The fear in this story is not just about the society but also about the fear of the narrator�s conscience.
